KudoZ gatherings? Who said this question had any connection with KudoZ gatherings?
Lancashireman Mar 16, 2021:
a soirée like snobbish element ... ... in the Kudoz gatherings (sic)
Thanks for confirming your grasp of English prose.
Janet Muehlbacher (asker) Mar 16, 2021:
Oh dear, I´m so sorry if I offended some of you, is there perhaps a soirée like snobbish element in the Kudoz gatherings?
Cilian O'Tuama Mar 14, 2021:
There is a dashboard feature... ... that reminds potential answerers which askers they wish to avoid in future, for whatever reason.
Just click on 'dashboard' under the asker's name, and filter them.
Lancashireman Mar 12, 2021:
Very poor decision and site etiquette 1) You don’t have ‘intellectual gatherings’ in a restaurant unless the proprietors are willing to close down the kitchen for the evening.
2) Eight other professionals thought that soirées was perfect for the context.
3) You could have let this run for the full two weeks and the system would have closed the question for you.

Don’t be surprised if future queries you post here go unanswered.
Ramey Rieger (X) Mar 12, 2021:
Good morning Janet Shorter than soirees? Bummer, but's it your call.
Janet Muehlbacher (asker) Mar 12, 2021:
I finally settled on "intellectual gatherings" since it had to be quite short, and the focus should be I think on the educated nature of the Gespräche. I liked all of your suggestions, and thank you all for them.
Janet Muehlbacher (asker) Mar 11, 2021:
thanks people for your rapid responses. I´ll have to think a little about this. it should be short

convivial chat

Went to Le Cabri for the first time since it re-opened with new owners. We were made very welcome and thoroughly enjoyed our Steaks, cooked to perfection, served by a lovely young lady who spoke excellent English. I had cheese to follow and whilst the selection was not huge, what I had was very good. We rounded off the evening with a convivial chat with the new managers and are really looking forward to our next visit and trying some of the other items on their menu

soirees

More or less literal translation, keeping the tone of elegance and upper-echelon conversation

Where women wear gloves and men take off their hats.
agree Petrus Maritz : soirées, to be fancy. Better than cafe conference.

casual yet intellectually stimulating group discussions

its a mouthful but i like it :-)
Peer comment(s):

disagree AllegroTrans : You like it, but it's over-translation and not everyone who chats in a restaurant is intellectually stimulating, believe me...

stimulating discourse

I think that something along the lines of discourse/ debate/ discussion would fit well into this context.
