exocentrés

French to English Tech/Engineering Engineering (general) display systems/in a patent
Context:
Dispositif électronique d’affichage de symboles exocentrés, procédé d’affichage et produit programme ordinateur associés.
Further context:

Exocentric anybody?

Confirmation or other suggestions would be appreciated.
TIA Chris.

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): Yvonne Gallagher

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Bashiqa (asker) Mar 23, 2021:
@ daryo Thanks for your explanations.
Daryo Mar 23, 2021:
there are at least TWO different meanings for "exocentric":

The meaning given by https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exocentric_environment has NOTHING to do with this text.

It's about a variant of Virtual reality where instead of wearing some kind of headset / head-mounted display you are placed in the middle of space completely surrounded by rear projection screens. That might be good for a drone pilot, but is certainly not for a pilot actually sitting in a cockpit.

And the meaning relevant for this ST where on one of many displays in front of the pilot you can see an external/third person view of the airplane itself and of what's in front of it.
Conor McAuley Mar 22, 2021:
To Bashiqa Well, absolutely. I'm not embarrassed at all to say that I was enlightened by Phil's answer.
Because it's kind of a one-to-one translation, it appears falsely simple. It's an unusual one!
Bashiqa (asker) Mar 22, 2021:
@ Conor Thank you. Even though most people could make a guess at exocentric I doubt many would have any idea what it actually meant.
Conor McAuley Mar 22, 2021:
To Bashiqa It's Pro now, maybe it has just been changed back following your comment.
Bashiqa (asker) Mar 22, 2021:
@ All Exocentric is fine, have to say that I`m surprised that the question is "non-pro" given the amount of time you`ve all put into it.
Thank you, Chris.
Bashiqa (asker) Mar 19, 2021:
@ All Thanks for your efforts, time for bed, Covid vaccine this morning, Chris.
Conor McAuley Mar 19, 2021:
Yep: "...outside the aircraft (exocentric)"

Since Wikipedia doesn't measure up to Daryo's high standards, here are a couple of examples.

disagree Daryo : it is the right term, but you gave a terminally wrong explanation (even worse than a plain wrong term) // wrong as in **NOT APPLICABLE TO THIS ST** //"... you imagine a pilot flying an airplane in virtual reality, while actually sitting in the cockpit???

If you think Wikipedia is "terminally wrong", why don't you rewrite it?
neutral Yvonne Gallagher : "I don't think you can define a term simply by repeating it." Look familiar?

That comment was about an English-English question where you simply repeated the source term without explaining it. I haven't repeated anything - I've given a translation and a definition.
