Completely unrelated ... « Je n’avance, lui dit-il, je ne raconte rien que je ne sache d’original : je l’ai appris de Sethon, ambassadeur de France dans cette cour ; revenu à Paris depuis quelques jours, que je connais familièrement, que j’ai fort interrogé, et qui ne m’a caché aucune circonstances. »

From the Custom House to City Hall, the bluff line on the north bank of the Mississippi is ridged by an unbroken string of buildings whose backs are facing you.

Peer comment(s):

agree Daryo : the nearest to the original term and with least risk of confusion // "on this plot you can build a house that will be a standalone one or part of an unbroken string (or "row") of buildings.[i.e. with common walls with neighbouring houses]"

detached and attached buildings

...
Example sentence:

The following conditions apply to both the detached and attached buildings listed above.

You can build detached, semi detached, and attached buildings in R4 infill zoning

Peer comment(s):

neutral Milan Nesic : "detached" nisu u nizu, već slobodnostojeće

neutral Daryo : that wouldn't work in UK "detached" would understood as "slobodnostojeće" BUT "attached building" would be understood as s.t. totally else NOT as "a house that is part of a row of houses".

attached / semi-detached buildings

"[...] u neprekinutom nizu – objekat na parceli dodiruje obe bočne linije građevinske parcele;
u prekinutom nizu – objekat dodiruje samo jednu bočnu liniju građevinske parcele [...]"
(čl. 23 st. 1 tač. 1-2 Pravilnika o opštim pravilima za parcelaciju, regulaciju i izgradnju)

"A building shall be considered 'attached' when it abuts two lot lines other than a street line, or another building or buildings other than a semi-detached building."

"A 'semi-detached' building is a building that abuts only one other building, other than an attached building, on an adjoining zoning lot along only one side lot line and which is surrounded on all other sides by yards, other open areas or street lines."
Peer comment(s):

neutral Daryo : "attached" (only that) may work in NYC, but certainly NOT in UK // in UK a "semi / semi-detached" is one standalone house divided vertically in two independent units, and s.t. "attached" would be an extension to an existing building on the same plot.

NO, in UK terms, "terraced" and "end-of-terrace/end-terraced" would be more appropriate; and NO, semi-detached is NOT ONE standalone house BUT TWO houses which share one party wall and usually a symmetrical internal layout.
