Jair Bolsonaro's speech in Live on his YouTube channel on 05/Aug/2021:

What would be a good idiomatic equivalent to "engoli um sapo pela fosseta lacrimal"?

I swallowed a bitter pill through my tear sac (nonsensical)

Explanation:

Porém a Wikipédia traz o seguinte verbete:

O Aulete Digital traz a seguinte definição:

Fosseta loreal/lacrimal
1 Zool.
https://www.aulete.com.br/fosseta

(Just giving free rein to my imagination.) De qualquer forma, encontrei isto:

The " pit vipers , ” or Crotalidæ , include the common poisonous snakes of the New World such as the rattlesnakes, moccasins and copperheads. The group is distinguished from the viperid snakes by the presence of a pit on each side of the face between the nostril and eye. This pit has been variously described as an auditory organ, a tear sac, a duct giving access to the poison, a gland, an organ of a sixth sense, a tactile organ, a tegumental sense organ of the lateral line series, and a chemical sense organ allied to olfaction and gustation. https://books.google.com/books?id=QzkLAAAAIAAJ&pg=PA263&lpg=...

I was devastated

Explanation:
I'm assuming that the idiom refers to fighting back tears (he was so sad that their friendship was the reason Alexandre didn't get the job).
