Spanish term

Sociedades Civiles y Comerciales

Spanish to English Law/Patents Law: Contract(s)
Necesito traducir este concepto que aparece en un analítico universitario de la carrera de abogacía de Argentina dentro de la materia de nombre: "Sociedades Civiles y Comerciales". Desde ya, muchas gracias.

Discussion

Seth Phillips Jun 3, 2022:
Sociedades civiles y mercantiles This exists in Spain, which Rebecca Jower renders as "Civil-Code entities and entities governed by the Commercial Code and/or specific business legislation." I would probably put this in a comment for clarification, and try to keep the translation short and simple. Perhaps "commercial and non-commercial entities" could work also?

Professional Partnership(s) and Commercial Undertaking(s)

sociedad civil: professional partnership vs. sociedad comercial : commercial company (as opposed to a sociedad civil); West.

In E&W, these topics might be subsumed under 'the law on business, trading and non-trading organisations', with companies and partnerships confusingly taught in the UK as discrete subjects, often with little co-ordination.

Business entity vs. commercial undertakings both include partnerships and companies. Business corporation in English law does not strictly include a partnership, unless an LLP.

'A receiver in insolvency proceedings regarding a commercial undertaking does not fall into either of those two categories. oami.europa.eu Sin embargo, la calidad de administrador en el procedimiento de quiebra de una sociedad mercantil no corresponde a ninguna de esas dos categorías.'
Example sentence:

Definition of trading company : a company organized to carry on commerce with foreign nations or in overseas territories trading companies played an important part in the early settlement of America.

General partnership A general partnership is the most basic form of partnership. It does not require forming a *business entity* with the state. In most cases, partners form their business by signing a partnership agreement.

agree Seth Phillips : What about commercial entreprises?

Thanks, Seth. I'll work that one - perhaps a macro- vs. micro-economic term - for the 'comerciales' word into a glossary entry.
agree AllegroTrans : I think you should omit "professional" e.g. clubs and associations can form Sociedades Civiles as well as professional people

Thanks, Chris. Perhaps I'll incorporate non-trading to contrast with commercial.
