French term

ischémie consommée

I'm not sure how to refer to this in English. It invariably seems to appear when amputation is necessary so I'm wondering whether it is simply another way of saying irreversible ischemia. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks

Consommer can mean complete. Could that be it?

Un synonyme de 'ischemie aiguë' ?

Thank you!
agree Daryo : yes "consommée" in the sense of "done / past the point of no return (as in "une amputation à mi-cuisse") / gone to the final stage" makes sense .

acute limb ischaemia

I don't do a ton of French medical, but I do Spanish medical and French ...

Since it was related to an embolism, my best guess is acute.

Some sources also use "acute arterial occlusion", which could be another option if you want to reference occlusion.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK441851/:

"Acute arterial occlusion is synonymous with acute limb ischemia and is considered a vascular emergency. ... The most common cause of acute limb ischemia is in situ thrombotic occlusion."

https://www.merckmanuals.com/professional/cardiovascular-dis...
Example sentence:

Acute limb ischemia (ALI) results from a sudden obstruction in the arterial flow to the extremity due to an embolism or thrombosis.

The prognosis of acute limb ischemia is severe, with amputation rates of up to 25% and in-hospital mortality of 9-15%.
