Erzsébet Czopyk Nov 26, 2022:
@Daryo you are wise
Daryo Nov 26, 2022:
My GUESS would be that at the top of the user interface screen there is a field/box prompting the user to chose where to move "the focus" of the current (or next?) operation.

That would make sense, BUT in my experience this kind of "plausible guesses" have the nasty habit of turning out to be completely off-tangent once you have the full context. Not always, but you can never know in advance.

So... What about giving some relevant context?
Daryo Nov 21, 2022:
both "focus" and "prompt" are known terms.

BUT that doesn't help at all to decipher what "the focus prompt" is supposed to be in some ill-defined / non-existent context.

Peer comment(s):

disagree Daryo : all very plausible, but without more context explaining why there is a mention of some "focus" (that could be a verb or a noun, no way of knowing!!) it's only pointless guessing.

Peer comment(s):

disagree Tony M : 'mise au point' is the wrong kind of focus here: in IT, it refers to 'focusing the attention' on e.g. a window, tab, etc. — the thing you want to look at / work in.

disagree Daryo : agree with Tony - we can only guess what it is, but we can be sure this ST is not about obtaning sharp "in-focus" pictures of anything, neither literally not figuratively.

A progress bar is a graphical control element used to visualize the progression of an extended computer operation, such as a download, file transfer, or installation.

Determinate or indeterminate
Progress bars can give an idea of time – but they don’t necessarily have to do so to remain effective.

Determinate progress bars indicate how long an operation will take when the percentage complete is detectable.
Percentage progress bar

Indeterminate progress bars ask a user to wait while something finishes, and are primarily used when it’s not necessary (or possible) to indicate how long it will take.
Time estimate progress bar

It works fine (when the page loads, progress bar starts and completes 300frames) but when I switch the tab or minimize the window it stops and when I reopen the tab, it resumes. I don't want this top happen. I want the progress bar to continue loading even when not in focus. Is there way to do so ?, cause I saw such progress bars on may other sites.

neutral Daryo : the "progress bar" is not the problematic term + "being in focus" doesn't explain what "focus prompt" should mean in some unknown context.

'focus prompts' are used in 'concept mapping' analysis

https://conceptsystems.com/content/uploads/2015/09/CS-Global...
(page 3)
"Concept mapping is a process that helps a group describe its ideas on any topic of interest and represent these ideas visually in the form of a map. The process typically requires participants to brainstorm a large set of statements relevant to a defined topic of interest, known as a focus prompt, individually sort these statements into categories of similar ideas, rate each statement on one or more scales, and interpret the maps that result from the data analyses."

neutral Daryo : I doubt that this kind of "focus prompt" would be part of some user interface, next to some "progress bar". The ST is about software, not about a group of people

Actually, in the kind of application I referred to a progress bar may be used to give participants feedback on how their work is progressing. And, as you have pointed out yourself, we don't (yet) know what the ST is actually talking about.
