This document provides the instructions you need to follow when carrying out the
enumeration phase in preparation for fieldwork. The aim of the enumeration phase is to
collect detailed information for addresses in each of the assignments you are asked to
enumerate in. These assignments are sample points with a start address from which you
must follow a random walk to select and enumerate a fixed number of addresses,
enumerating every nth address. Enumeration requires you to list the address details of each
selected address on your tablet. It is critical that you follow the random walk instructions
correctly when selecting the addresses to enumerate. This ensures that all addresses in the
sample point have an equal chance of being selected. Equally critical is that you provide
sufficient details of the selected address to allow an interviewer to find the address several
weeks after you have enumerated for main stage fieldwork. Quality checks will be carried out
to assess whether all assignments are carried out in accordance with the instructions.
