I agree with Althea.

Remboursement/tiers-payant codes used to appear on those mutuelle documents people have to show if someone has one.
HGE could be listed on them.

You don't say why the patient was in intensive care. It could be that HGE stands for Hépato-Gastro-Entérologie - see https://www.ghbs.bzh/information-transversale/annuaire-des-s...

However, references to hepatogastroenterology in English tend to be translations from French, Dutch etc rather than in common usage in English. For example, the BMJ link below uses the phrase "gastroenterology and hepatology" and other UK and US links seem to favour that too.
