Retirei minha resposta anterior porque ela continha um erro. Aparentemente, "value payable post" não é o mesmo que COD (cash on delivery). Veja abaixo:
Value Payable service of India Post is quite similar to CoD in it's working, with some major differences.
Basically, the sender declares a value payable to him by the recipient on delivery of an article (letter/ parcel) by submitting a VP Money order form along with the article; the post offfice books it as a registered VP article; and when the article gets delivered at recipient post office, the MO form is forwarded to sender's office and the sender gets paid. While CoD is relatively new service which can be utilized by registered bulk/corporate customers only at some designated post offices, Value Payable services can be availed by any individual on majority of post offices.
Terms and procedure :
Proper packaging
Recipient's and Sender's address should be written on the package
On the top of the package : ” Value Payable Letter ( or Parcel, if it is a parcel) for RS.xxx ( in both words and figures) only" should be written;
A VP MO form should be duly filled up and attached to the package, externally.
In addition to VP and registration charges at the time of booking, Post office collects a 5% of VP amount as MO commission from the recipient at the time of delivery.
( PS: Please take extra care while packaging. India Post is understaffed. So, handling of packages isn't, ahem, up to a normal customer's expectations.Books, clothes and papers do well.
