Spanish term or phrase: la cana
This is from an audio transcription. I'm not 100% sure "la cana" is what's being said, but it definitely sounds like it. I wonder if the meaning is clear to anyone? Or if there's a word that fits and sounds like cana that I'm not thinking of? Thanks in advance.

English translation:cana roof/palm leaf roof/thatch
Explanation:
I think "cana" refers to the cana palm, and the part used for roofing is the leaf or frond. If this is Dominican Republic, the answer could be in the name of the famous Punta Cana:

PUNTA CANA - What does it mean?
Cana is a name used for a type of palm tree and the leaves, or fronds, have been used for roofing for centuries. These trees are very numerous in this area.

The Dominican vernacular architecture, based on the indigenous bohio with Spanish influence, is built with natural materials, such as the royal palm (Roystonea Hispaniolana) and the cana palm (Sabal Dominguensis). This model of housing has remained practically unchanged for five centuries, responding adequately to the Caribbean tropical climate.

"Palm chats are the national bird," Cuevas said. "The region gets its name from the cana palm. We still build with the trunks and thatch roofs with the fronds."

A cana – or palm leaf – roof is beautiful and somehow keeps the temperature inside pleasant even at very high temperatures. It is less pleasant if it leaks, though. Happend here after a day of super heavy rain. But the cana specialists – Nic calls them affectionately canagurus – were quick to fix it.
