Ένας κυλινδρικός χόνδρινος σωλήνας, με 11,3 εκ. μήκος, από τον λάρυγγα ως τους πρωτογενείς βρόγχους. Εκτείνεται από τον έκτο αυχενικό μέχρι τον πέμπτο θωρακικό σπόνδυλο, όπου διαχωρίζεται σε ένα σημείο που αποκαλείται τρόπιδα σε δύο βρόγχους, ο καθένας από τους οποίους οδηγεί σε κάθε πνεύμονα. Ο βλεννογόνος αποτελείται από τριχωτό επιθήλιο που σαρώνει βλέννα, παγιδευμένη σκόνη και παθογόνα προς τα άνω.
