English term

Sub-set of the board of directors

English to French Law/Patents Law: Contract(s)
Minutes of the meeting of a sub-set of the Board of Directors of the Company

Sub-set: je comprends qu'il s'agit que d'un certains nombre d'administrateurs, je me demande s'il y a un mot pour décrire Sub-set.

Thank you :)

Discussion

AllegroTrans Apr 10:
You cannot presume that the "sub-set" is a "comité restreint" or "comité exécutif"
It may simply be a reduced-size Board of Directors (owing to illness, sufficient quorum, etc.)

sous-comité du conseil d'administration

Peer comment(s):

neutral AllegroTrans : I think this is a step too far; the source text suggests only an "ad hoc" cohort of the members, not a formal committee

neutral Daryo : you would expect that if only some of the directors meet as a "subset" then they should be some kind of "working group" "ad-hoc committee" or similar, but it's only guessing.

Sous-ensemble du conseil d'administration

There isn't a direct translation of "Sub-set" in this context.
"Comité restreint" is used for a smaller group of directors who meet to discuss specific issues before reporting back to the full board.
"Sous-comité" implies a more permanent group with specific delegated tasks.
"Sous-ensemble" is a more general term. It is the most frequently used, for it can replace both "Comité restreint" and "Sous-comité".
Example sentence:

L'équipe de développement est un sous-ensemble plus petit de l'entreprise.

Un sous-ensemble du conseil d'administration se réunira pour discuter du budget marketing.

Note from asker:
Thank you. I agree that sous-ensemble seems too broad. In the context that a new written resolution was adopted concerning the reduction of the capital of the company, un "comité restreint" or even "exécutif" could work better in this context?

neutral Barbara Carrara : Your answer duplicates Kévin's, who submitted his 6 mins after the question was posted, as opposed to your 54 mins... You could have gone with one of your other options instead.
