agree Richard Lawson : In my translation of the Working Environment Act, I translated "merarbeid" as "additional work". Here, it applies to part-time workers, and is defined as "working hours in excess of the number of hours agreed upon, but within the ordinary working hours".

supplementary work

"Even so, exceptions apply, similarly to overtime work and supplementary work".
I don't believe 'merarbeid' has a defined meaning in employment matters - in lay terms it is often used about work that becomes necessary due to inferior work or material quality somewhere up the chain.
