English term

earth path

English to French Tech/Engineering Electronics / Elect Eng
In contrast to the TN-S system there is no metallic path from the consumer's terminals back to the sub-station transformer secondary windings. Because the earth path may be of high resistance, a residual current circuit-breaker (R.C.C.B.) is often fitted so that if a fault current flows in the earth path then a trip disconnects the phase supply.

agree Tony M : It's not really quite that; is there no other word for 'path' here? It's actually the route via the Earth. / OK, fair enough! What about 'chemin de fuite', that's used OK isn't it?

"chemin" occurs, but only in suspect translated material Never heard it used. And "circuit" means "path" in this case.

neutral Tony M : Sorry, Florence, but this isn't really a 'dispositif' here; note it is really referring to the path back to the substation via the actual Earth. We do talk about 'chemin de fuite', don't we? Could it be 'chemin...' here?

agree Tony M : Though I am slightly concerned at just how few genuine, native FR refs. I was able to find on the 'Net
