I am sure that anything with SWIFT, like Code SWIFT, will be understood in France, but I just checked what it says on my RIB (relevé d'identité bancaire), and that is the whole shebang above.

By the way - the SWIFT code is not a number. It has mostly letters and some of them have one or two digits. Like the SWIFT codes of my banks are SOGEFRPP and BOFAUS3N.

: I think BIC is mostly used in Europe. If Sandra translates for Canada, she'll have to use SWIFT, as it won't be understood otherwise.

You are so right. I would probably also add SWIFT in parentesis even for use in Europe.

: No, I'm certainly NOT confusing IBAN with BIC!!! But it IS confusing --- some RIBs I have also say BIC (SWIFT), but one of them gives DIFFERENT codes for the 2! Probably safest to call it SWIFT, avoid changing one EN acronym for a different one...

Look again Dusty, you may be confusing "Identification Internationale (IBAN)" with "identifiant International de la Banque (BIC)". The latter is clearly the SWIFT code, SOGEFRPP on my RIB. Take a look at the wab reference I gave: It says BIC = SWIFT.
