bonjour,
--> l'image de marque de la Bundesliga (a)
--> la marque Bundesliga (b)
--> nominaliser:
1. commercialisation de (a) ou (b)
2. promotion de (a) ou (b)
--> verbaliser:
--> autre possibilité:
1. Comment vendre/commercialiser/promouvoir (a) ou (b)
...Et il existe certainement d'autres pistes

J'avais oublié l'article défini...

promouvoir la marque "Bundesliga"
I'd say it works fine provided the rest of the document explicits the context of the Bundesliga (in particular the fact it is german).

: But I think 'branding' has a bit more to it than just 'promoting the X brand'... / That's why I feel it may be best to retain the EN buzzword, instead of trying to fudge around it!

You're right, but it's going to be difficult to cover the whole meaning of the metaphor. How about something like "Promouvoir la marque Bundesliga...au fer rouge" :)

bundesliga
Hi, actually bundesliga is the name of the championship in Germany. It's the equivalent of first league or premiere league if you prefer in Uk et de la ligue 1 en France en France(ou premiere division).

le « branding » de la Bundesliga allemande
I think you'll find that the EN word 'branding' is often used in this context (64 800 Ghits can't be wrong...?)
www.entreprisescanada.ca/servlet/ContentServer?cid=11848707...
The properly FR alternative of 'promotion de l’image de marque' is horribly unwieldy for use in your title — though you might find it worth including it by way of explanation once your text gets going.
Cf. too the FR use of 'marketing'
Regarding your secondary question of the best way to translate the -ing form, where a suitable FR verb exists, then the infinitive is commonly found; otherwise, FR often uses a noun form + 'de' where we use the -ing form (as in the example above with 'promotion de...'). But in all humility, I'll leave that to the FR native speakers to explain better than I could!

It's vitally important to udnerstand the EN term correctly if an appropriate translation is to be found.
'branding' is a whole concept that encompasses a number of ideas — it is not merely 'promoting the brand', nor yet again 'marketing / selling the brand' — there are no doubt marketing experts out there who can explain it better than I, but I don't think any of the 'properly FR' suggestions so far comes close to summing up all that 'branding' comprises — the CA suggestion of 'promotion de l'image de marque' (literally, 'promoting the brand image') is by far the closest, though even that misses some of the salient points, I feel.

This employs some football wordplay - marking players is especially a job of defenders. Marquer is also to score a goal. What more could one want?

branding
ok, my mistake. So, for branding the most commun definition would be promotion. Meanwhile, it depends of your article: if it's more about protecting the brand, the appropriated term would be protection de la licence Bundesliga, or it could be as well comment mettre en avant ( or comment améliorer) l'image de la Bundesliga if the article is about the promotion of the german championship.
Peer comment(s):

Tony M
: But none of those options truly encompasses what 'branding' is all about.

Discussion
What concerns me most here is that none of my native French-speaking colleagues (naturally enough eager to stick up for their mother tongue!) has yet come up with a translation suggestion that in my view successfully encompasses all that the very special term 'branding' implies. It is so much more than merely marketing or promotion — it is the whole concept of establishing a 'brand identity' for a 'product', making people perceive something as abstract as the notion of 'the Bundesliga' as if it were a branded commodity like Nike trainers or something.
