It seems a little odd expressed like that, have you given us the complete sentence from the context? Usually, it would say "...actual footage of..." or "...from..." etc.

Anyway, the usual meaning is that this is in some way real / authentic / genuine, i.e. not fictional or staged, for example. Only your wider context will enable you to determine just what the distinction is that is being made here.

As for 'footage', it always seems to be a bit of a problem to translate into FR, but if the 'actual' refers principally to the visual content (as it usually does), then you might just as well go with 'images' (which is commonly used in just this sort of meaning on FR TV, for example)

If you could explain a bit more about your context, we might be able to help you better...

Important to avoid the 'faux ami' trap with 'images' [EN] and 'images' [FR] — in FR, it is used with much wider meanings than simply 'the pictures', and I really do think it is the closest equivalent we're likely to find to the EN term 'footage' (which after all no longer really has anything specifically to do with the length of a piece of film!)

Explanation:
Comme indiqué par Tony, plus de contexte serait nécessaire, mais si l'on parle de jeux vidéos par exemple, on parle souvent de "séquences réelles" dans le jeu, pour les différencier des films CGI qui souvent sont de bien meilleure qualité que le jeu en lui-même, même si ceci est de moins en moins vrai de nos jours (les jeux d'aujourd'hui étant d'une qualité visuelle de plus en plus impressionnante)

  -> I think that's the diff. between FR and EN: you often see on FR TV e.g. 'images de Canal Sat' — where it clearly doesn't mean just the pictures; the word 'footage' doesn't seem to exist in FR, other than in the sense of a length (cf. court métrage)
