: means "sans pareil" (not sure it is true though)-perfectly normal phrasing but I have never heard Andersen described in this way

thanks Rita - I don't find the English expression bizarre... do you?// just wondered because of other comments above... as for Andersen, neither have I (and not sure if I would use the term to describe his work either, you're right!) :-)
