“Proof-texting” is a misguided study method that seeks to prove a specific personal idea or doctrine, rather than simply searching for the truth on a matter. It involves selecting several verses that appear to support a specific supposition, presenting those as “proof,” but in the process, ignoring other verses and scriptural passages or principles that clarify the actual Bible teaching. It often involves lifting biblical statements out of context in support of an unbiblical assumption.

J'ai pensé à traduire par "prouver par le texte", mais je ne suis pas encore convaincu.
