"Liability explained
Your liability is the amount you could lose in your worst-case scenario.
When backing it's simply the stake which you place. When laying however it's the amount it will cost you if your selection wins. Either way, it is how much you are risking."
Définition de mise dans le Larousse :

• Action de risquer de l'argent au jeu, en affaires ; cet argent lui-même : Perdre sa mise.

I think I would translate stake by "enjeu" here though it could also be "mise" - if we're talking about the bettor. Applied to a third party backer, it would probably be "part" or "intérêt" or "e.g. when someone stakes another person.

Note from asker:
Thanks! But then, is there an exact term in French to make the difference with "stake"? mise avec participation? because in my text both terms are used so there must be something in French to reflect it? Ex: Repeated stakes on same combination. Multiples with high liability. Thanks |

dette
..
Note from asker:
Thanks. I was also thinking about "dette", but I'm not sure it's the exact meaning in this context, is it? Would it be "dettes pour les paris multiples"? This wouldn't imply winnings after outcomes? |

Not sure whether askers get a notification for additional notes in the answer section, so here it is again :)
