Le taffetas est un textile difficile à travailler. Le mot « taffetas » est d’origine persane et signifie « ce qui est tissé ». Quand on parle de « taffetas pour doublure », on parle d’une toile fine souvent en soie ou en acétate. Attention, on appelle également « taffetas » les tissus fins au tissage serré, moirés, à la structure froissée et au touché bruissant. Ceux-ci ne sont pas à utiliser pour doubler un vêtement.
