1) You ask if the sentence is correct? Well, not quite: it is clearly meant to read "...functions as ..." — is this a source text error, or your own omission?
2) Note that 'area' here is almost certainly not 'zone' — because it is "a meeting place for the area" (and areas don't meet!), I think you need to udnersatnd this with a notion of '(the people of) the area'; as such, I'd have thought the word you need here is 'région' (or something else — but definitely not 'zone'!) |
