I haven't found an exact Hungarian expression for the term. "halcsapda", "varsa" is too general, "csellecsapda" (meaning minnow "cselle") is too limited as it can also be used for other species, depending on trap size.

"Relative abundance and within-lake distributions of three fishes, northern redbelly dace (Phoxinus eos), finescale dace (Phoxinus neogaeus), and central mudminnow (Umbra limi), were examined using minnow traps in Tuesday Lake, a small bog lake in the Upper Peninsula, Michigan. For these species, catches in minnow traps placed at the perimeter of the lake were 21 to 52 times higher than catches in midlake traps"
US patent: "A minnow trap is disclosed comprising an enclosure having water permeable metallic wire screen walls for containing minnows and at least one water permeable metallic wire screen frusto-conical entry through which minnows may enter. The enclosure is provided with an access slot through which bait may be manually inserted into the enclosure and trapped minnows removed therefrom. Zipper means are provided for opening and closing the access slot."

Utólag nem tudom sajnos módosítani a válszomat de szerintem nyugodtan elfogadhatod a "mini varsás" választ is, ez nem kerül be automatikusan a terminológiai adatbázisba. Egy válasz elfogadása során lehet dönteni arról, hogy be akarsz-e tenni egy kifejezést a proz terminológiai adatbázisába, és ha igen, akkor szabadon beírhatod a megfelelő kifejezést, jelen esetben a kishalcsapdát, annak nem kell megegyeznie az elfogadott válaszban megadott kifejezéssel.

kishalcsapda Mondjuk tudományos szövegben, ahol nem az a szempont, hogy csalihalat fogjanak, lehet, hogy tényleg jobb a kishalcsapda/kishalvarsa, bár erre csak 1-2 találat van a neten.

Csalihalvarsa / csalihalcsapda I think this would be a good solution. This is an existing expression in Hungarian (see https://www.google.hu/search?q=csalihalvarsa&espv=2&biw=1920... and it perfectly covers the meaning of "minnow trap". For details see the second half of my answer below (I first suggested mini varsa but by making some additional research I finally found csalihalvarsa).

Minnow is „cselle” ,which is small fish.

Here, it can be seen, that „ minnow trap” is defined by its max. size:

Minnow trap means a cylindrical device not longer than twenty-four inches and no more than thirty inches in circumference or a rectangular device not larger than twenty-four inches long, eight inches high, and nine inches wide. The mesh must be no smaller than one-quarter inch bar mesh. The throat opening of the funnel of the trap may not exceed one inch in diameter.
