But anyway, from the type of questions you've been asking I assume you're translating about different type of converters. In this case, it seems the text is talking about single fiber media converters as these:

In that case, I have to assume that by "side" they mean the converters (but they could just as well be talking about their corresponding endpoints).

If they are talking about the converters, I would go for conversor ascendente / conversor descendente.

But if they're just talking about each side of the single mode fiber, you could just as well use lado/extremo ascendente / lado/extremo descendente
