From the abstract to my doctoral thesis, "Metaphor and agency in the English-Spanish translation of texts in the social sciences" (Monash University 2014)

Additionally, in the context of the researcher’s own second-language (L2) translations, it seeks to challenge underlying assumptions regarding first-language (L1) translation and the privileged status it holds with regard to directionality and argues that, when it comes to identifying L1 and L2 proficiency in the context of translation, **the intricacies involved require nuanced approaches**, leaving little or no room for facile prescriptions of a binary nature.

Creo que 'matizados' funciona muy bien en este contexto. And as Immanuel Wallerstein states: 'The translator should not defend the purity of the language [...]. Nor must the translator defend classic usages against the author's new usage, since the new usage is precisely the author's objective' (qtd in 'Metaphor and Agency' 61). ... la complejidad que llevan consigo exige planteamientos basados en la percepción [exacta] de los matices (del original)

o "requieren abordar la comprensión plena de las connotaciones y matices semánticos del original"... (si me pongo verboso y me da un ataque de veborragia..., esto puede ser peligroso...)
