Both words mean the same thing, so it doesn't really add anything to the sentence.

agree Michael Barnett : Yes, but pervasive particularly means that it has spread thoughout all areas of something. For example, in this case it means he is unhappy everywhere - at home, at work, with his family, his friends, while on vacation, in the morning, at night...
