français term or phrase:
rentrée doctorale
anglais translation:
start of academic year for doctoral students
I saw a previous question on here about "la rentrée" in relation to an orientation meeting for first year undergraduates, which nicely translated as freshers' meeting (in British English, freshman for our American friends). This makes me think of undergraduates though, and I can't think of an equivalent for students beginning a PhD. The other thing is that this is for "tous les doctorants (qu’il s’agisse d’une première inscription ou d’une réinscription)" so I need to find something more universal. I'm stumped!
Any ideas much appreciated! TIA :-)

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.
How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:
An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)
A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).
Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.
When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.
* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Thanks. Only CL4 because you could phrase it (marginally) differently.

: La rentrée is the start of the academic year, and it's also used colloquially to mean the return to work after summer vacation (since French people typically vacation in July-Aug). Add "doctorale" and it means the same thing, but for doctoral students.

Thanks Eliza. Not just "colloquially", "la rentrée" is a major annual event in France.

Start of academic year
In theory, following the same reasoning (by context), you could also do away with "academic", but I wouldn't unless you're really very short of space.
