Feb 27, 2020 18:25: Jennifer White changed "Level" from "PRO" to "Non-PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (2): philgoddard, AllegroTrans

Non-PRO (3): Yvonne Gallagher, mchd, Jennifer White

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

AllegroTrans Feb 28, 2020:
It's a PRO question. Why? An ordinary translator, even with a dictionary, is unlikely to understand the point that this is a measurement as surveyed for the cadstral registry (very unfamiliar term to most native EN-speakers) and used to calculate land tax, separately and distinctly from amy measurements that are used for the Land Registry.
AllegroTrans Feb 27, 2020:
It's not the land registry It's the cadastral registry which is not the same thing; in many countries this operates completely separately from the land registry
philgoddard Feb 27, 2020:
Are you going to put that as an answer, Marco?
Yvonne Gallagher Feb 27, 2020:
@ Asker agree with Marco. Easily found if not known
Marco Solinas Feb 27, 2020:
Definition It is the surface area as recorded at the land registry office; it is not necessarily the actual surface area of the parcel of land. See https://www.surfaceparcelle.com/

Cadastral surface for tax (rates) purpose

Peer comment(s):

disagree Tony M : Same faux ami — 'surface' here in FR = 'area' here in EN; yes, but in EN, if we have 'area', we don't usually need to add 'surface', except in special circumstances (i.e. not here)

Okay "surface area"

Reference:

Perhaps "cadastral area (for land tax purposes)" would be more appropriate here. The online reference page I have given contains the following definition: '(...) la contenance cadastrale (...) est une donnée purement administrative inscrite sur les documents cadastraux et qui permet simplement de calculer l'impôt foncier (différence entre les deux compris entre 0 et 5%)'
