bénéfice imposable /résultat fiscal

13:16 May 3, 2013
French language (monolingual) [PRO]
Bus/Financial - Law: Taxation & Customs / Tax Return
French term or phrase: bénéfice imposable /résultat fiscal
Please could anyone tell me the difference between these two terms?

My clients have just sent in their French Tax Returns, but the Tax Office is wondering why they have different figures for both of these:

Thank you.

same thing

Explanation:
If you look at this form in PDF:

http://www.impots.gouv.fr/portal/deploiement/p1/fichedescrip...

You can see right on page 1 that the 'résultat fiscale' is simply made up of different tranches of 'bénéfice' that are 'imposable' at different rates.

Note 1 on the reverse explains it more thoroughly:

So it looks as if your customer must have got their sums wrong, such that the sum of lines 210, 214, and 218 in table 2033-B or line FL in table 2052 doesn't correspond to the figure they have entered on page 1.

disagree  Daryo: not exactly, or more precisely not always//we don't know if in this specific case there was or not any disposal of assets during the accounting period. Just because they are not a regular occurrence, you can't forget "plus ou moins-values à long terme"

-> Well, maybe; but in Asker's specific context. / You can't say it is absolutely and always wrong. / If you go and look at the actual form in question, you'll understand what applies in Asker's specific context

pas pareil

Explanation:

(=> cadre L du formulaire 2065)

in fact there is a rather strong/obvious clue, showing that IT'S NOT "the same thing":

"Tax Office is wondering why they have different figures for both of these"

I would expect that the French tax office is using some software, not pen and paper and abacus, and that before "going live" algorithms used for calculations were at least triple checked by people who do know a thing or two about the subject matter.

IOW one can be 99.9999% sure that if these figures are different, then they MUST relate to different concepts.

neutral  Tony M: In the forms cited, the 'Résultat fiscal' is stated before the various deductions etc. (Form 2033-B, box 312/314)

-> "plus ou moins-values à long terme" are also part of the "Résultat fiscal", that's the most relevant bit here

neutral  Daryo: first reference is fine but only about "bénéfice imposable" // second one is of no use for this ST, it's about a sub-variant of the term, doesn't define what is "résultat fiscal", so doesn't help any comparison with "bénéfice imposable" -

-> Both references are fine, since they show the asker how useful it is to search before asking. When I want points, I give answers, but nor for notions that have already been defined/explained/translated.
