German term

in den starken

German to English Medical Medical: Health Care CSF puncture, spinal tap
In a German medical report of a multiple sclerosis patient there appears the following:
"Die Diagnose stütze sich auf wiederholte MRT Untersuchungen, eine Liquorpunktion mit dem Nachweis von oligoklonalen Banden sei in den starken durchgeführt worden."

I would appreciate help on the meaning "in den starken" here. Or could it possible be a typo or could text be missing?

Thanks,
Stephen

Cilian O'Tuama Dec 13, 2020:
Yes It would be fine if it read "in den Staaten" and not "in den starken", but it doesn't. :-)
Susanne Schiewe Dec 11, 2020:
I still think it could read "in den Staaten" - meaning that the patient had the CSF puncture done in the US. Looks like a perfect German sentence to me.
David Hollywood Dec 11, 2020:
agree with Cilian... impossible to render this as is...
Cilian O'Tuama Dec 11, 2020:
Nonsensical German IMO
"in den starken" is missing a noun or a capital, at least.
Susanne Schiewe Dec 10, 2020:
"in den Staaten"? Could it mean "in the US" (mishearing/dictation error)?

in the US ("in den Staaten")

see discussion. The patient informed the doctor that he/she had this procedure done in the US; that's why "sei" is used.

agree Sarah Maidstone : If you say both phrases out loud, that makes a lot of sense!

agree Cilian O'Tuama : But not necessarily informed by patient, see "stütze". Could also be simply quoting a report.
