mater materia / source of Matter Explanation: 'Boccioni became the leading theorist of futurist art, both in painting and sculpture. He was the most intellectually active and artistically creative of all the futurist artists. One of his aims was to vitalize matter (Materia, 1912). Matter had to serve as the expression of emotion and states of mind (States of Mind, 1911). The term linee forze, or lines of force, signifies in Boccioni's work the energies which dominate matter and spirit. ' "The Brooklyn Rail, Mar. 2004 - Boccioni’s Materia, A Futurist Masterpiece at the Guggenheim Museum by Jim Long". Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, 2004 - Exhibition centered on Materia, with 23 other works. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umberto_Boccioni http://biography.yourdictionary.com/umberto-boccioni http://www.francescoperilli.it/index.php?option=com_content&... 'The ether was also discussed in this period as the possible source of matter itself...' http://www.khi.fi.it/en/aktuelles/veranstaltungen/veranstalt... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 4 hrs (2014-04-22 13:31:31 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- I think 'origin of matter' could work too. |
