Can anyone help with the English translation of "blocchi di contrasto" in the context of a phase in consolidation of the foundations of a bell tower: "... posizionamento dei blocchi di contrasto in corrispondenza dei quattro vertici della fondazione". The next phase is: l’assemblaggio delle barre e il loro infilaggio attraverso le camerette predisposte". Thanks for your help.

buttress blocks
Hi Sarah,
I'd say this should be OK.
Here's a link to the foundation work done on the Tower of Pisa
Plinth
1) Structure of anchorage:
external buttress to anchors in reinforced concrete, 80 cm
thick (31 inches), corresponding to the four vertical walls;
http://www.pisabelltower.com/ltpphases.html
buttress
A structure, usually brick or stone, built against a wall for support or reinforcement.

Comment: "Thanks to you both, having read the description of the work carried out at Pisa, this seems to fit the bill best. "
