Italian term

territorio di \"chiari scuri\"

Italian to English Art/Literary Ships, Sailing, Maritime
Hello,
I'm translating a text describing a shipbuilding company based in Poole, southern England. It contains the following paragraph:

Any ideas? My thoughts so far is that it might refer to the contrast in colours between the sea and the land, but I'm not at all convinced.
Many thanks in advance!

Wolfgang Hager Dec 20, 2018:
murky brightness
philgoddard Dec 20, 2018:
Escursione di marea is tidal range. I think it may be something to do with colours, as you suggest, but it's not very clear writing. If I understand it correctly, the Solent's tides mark the landscape with darks and lights, whatever that means.
Ian Mansbridge (asker) Dec 20, 2018:
Indeed! It's littered with mistakes like that.
philgoddard Dec 20, 2018:
"Isola di White" doesn't say much for the quality of the text. And Poole is west of the Solent, not east.

land of contrasts

"Land of contrasts"... the most overused cliché in travel writing apparently!
But it could mean anything here.
