Just wanted to add my two bits - evasive maneuver is indeed correct, but this particular exercise is increasingly called a high-speed lane change, which seems rather more relevat in today's traffic than the "moose avoidance test" that brought the A-class to grief. In an evasive maneuver on the road, the car is steered sharply from its course (typically( towards the centre of the road, then right back to the original trajectory. This involves turning the steering wheel left-right-left. In the typical tire testing maneuver, the car is steered sharply from a straight-ahead course in one lane to a straigh-ahead course in the next lane. This involves turning the steering wheel left-right. The advantage of this over the 'elk test' is that the 'lane change' won't actually tip the car over, while the elk test can overturn almost any car if executed without allowance for the inherent suspension rhythm of the car.
