Norwegian term

Statens Sjøkartverk

Norwegian to English Bus/Financial Government / Politics
It's the government body for maritime cartography - just wondering if there was a nice, concise translation in English? Do we have an equivalent?

Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Jul 13, 2005:
Cheers Paul. This may be the British equivalent, as it were, but I am refering to the Norwegian government body. Also, Admiralty is concerned with the office of the admiral; this is not necessarily a naval body, rather merely a governmental entity concerned with mapping the sea.

the UKHO is:

It is is a bit of a mouthful but may be more useful to you depending on your context

and what I was respectfully proposing was that you adapt either Admiralty or the Hydrographic Office to your purpose.

I did, actually, call them up to ask them what they call themselves in English. The answer they gave is the one I submitted. They may well BE a subdivision of the Mapping Authority, but they sure don\'t feel that way - and \"Norwegian Hydrographic Services\" is the name they prefer to be known by. That makes other opinions rather moot, or what? Vedis\' points are well earned, though.

Comment: ""Services" would be what they offer. But I agree on the term Hydrography. Cheers!"
