Polish term

komisje etyczne

Polish to English Medical Medical: Pharmaceuticals clinical trial

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): TechLawDC

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

I think ethics committee would work in the US context too.

An institutional review board (IRB), also known as an independent ethics committee (IEC), ethical review board (ERB) or research ethics board (REB), is a committee that has been formally designated to approve, monitor, and review biomedical and behavioral research involving humans. They often conduct some form of risk-benefit analysis in an attempt to determine whether or not research should be done.[1]

Dziękuję Pawle.
agree magdadh : I like this, because I think that using a very specific term tends to imply that the entities are indeed identical. While this is a general term that would cover all types of those bodies.

Bioethics Committees

Unfortunatelly for any client working with Clinical Trials in Poland, it is Bioethics Committees, as this term was mistranslated years ago and if you choose to use Ethics Committee, each and every client will come back to correct it. At least this was the case when I argued about this term with multidue of companies I work for. Now, the standard in clinical trials is the use of Bioethics Committee. The same goes to Biocides - the term biocidal products is used by the PL office, but it was mistranslated, and next accepted (even int he name of the Office for Registration (...), as in the EN speaking countries, we use Biocides.

This is sort of a standard for medical translations Aleksandra.
Peer comment(s):

agree Polangmar : Z tym, że małymi literami (bioethics committees) - w tym przypadku nie jest to nazwa własna.
