Portuguese term
rasteirado
Portuguese to English
Art/Literary
Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting
Talking of an artist's early career, involving a move to a new city where he intends to enrol on a painting course.
O objectivo é matricular-se no curso de Pintura, mas acaba **rasteirado** pela insistência fortuita de um administrativo da Escola de que o curso em que poderia ter futuro seria Arquitectura e não Pintura.
might 'sidetracked' be a reasonable translation of this in context?
thanks

thrown off balance
I think the sense of rasteirar here is "tripped up". Sidetracked might work, but I have a feeling the word has more of a sense of stopping him in his tracks than sidetracking him.
HTH anyway.
HTH anyway.

Comment: "thanks Gilla, I came up with 'thrown off course' in the end, as a result of your suggestion."

talked out of his goal, sidetracked
Nesse caso, acho que rasteirar tem o sentido de demover:
demover
vt
demover alguém de algo to talk sb out of sth
demover
vt
demover alguém de algo to talk sb out of sth

Com o sentido de impedir, obstruir.
