Contexto (especificação técnica): Efetuar contato com fornecedores para obter *** literatura técnica ***, esclarecimento de dúvidas e discussão de alternativas de modo a subsidiar o desenvolvimento técnico do projeto.

In Portuguese, we use "literatura técnica" do refer to the full set of vendor documents provided with an equipment. I've always translated this as "technical documents" or "set of...", because I don't think "literature" is used in English for that purpose.

English native speakers, please advise. Thank you!

Right! Anyway I used the term in my translation, and I was going to close the post choosing your answer, but ProZ didn't allow me. I have to wait 24 hours. Whenever a term sounds "grandiose" in either language, I check to see if it's not a false cognate, which is very very common in translations. Thanks again.

I do see your point... "literature" does indeed seem a grandiose term worthy of any Lusophone Poet :-)

Nick Portuguese speakers commonly "invent" a lot of things to make it sound nice or sophisticated. Every time I see things that sound like that, and are usually a lot simpler and easier to understand in English, I take one step back. Usually a 10-page document in English ends up being a 12-page document in Portuguese, bacause of this fact. Anyway, thanks for clarifying!
