Does the phrase mean that a single person is helpless and it's better to act as a team to gain success?Depending upon the context and style a saying from Ecclesiastes 4:12 might also be useful: " And if somebody could overpover one alone, two together could make a stand against him. AND A THREEFOLD CORD CANNOT QUICKLY BE TORN IN TWO"

This was a subhead in an article in Nezavisimaya Gazeta in October 1991, translated as above by the U.S. Foreign Broadcast Information Service for its JPRS Report - Central Eurasia issue dated Jan. 17, 1992. The literal translation comes off pretty well. See page of 42 of this pdf:

: In Russian it doesnt mean he is not a warrior per se but just cant win the battle yet he can still be a warrior. Does it have the same meaning in English?

Thanks for commenting. It's not my proposal, really; I only reported from FBIS. But I don't hear, in Russian, an assertion that "he can still be a warrior." A warrior/soldier/воин implicitly needs other fighters with him, in order to win.
