@ Carol What comes before this? it's not clear whether the alguacil has notified the other party or entered something in the registry. And are you translating into British English or US English?

I've just realised that what comes before is your previous question.

alguacil can be bailiff, but it is definitely some kind of court official which is why I have gone with court clerk. It may be that someone out there knows what 'alguacil' means in the DR. Let's wait and see.

DRAE
1. m. y f. Funcionario subalterno de un ayuntamiento o un juzgado.

Thanks both of you!!

agree neilmac : More likely to be a clerk of court than a bailiff or sheriff, etc....

Thanks Neil
disagree dtranslators : Alguacil in Dom Rep is not the court clerk. He is a court bailiff and a process server.

Alguacil = Court bailiff

Alguacil in the Dominican Republic is not the court clerk.

Alguacil is a court bailiff appointed by the court to attend hearings (together with the clerk of the court) and to serve documents upon the parties.

In US he would acts like a sheriff and a process server.

In this case, if the sentence is found in a Dominican divorce decree, the translation would be:

....... prior notice to the other party served by court bailiff, for the mentioned purposes.

Note: I have been working with Dominican and US attorneys for more than 20 years so I am 100% sure of the above!
