Unless there is a mistake here, or I am missing something, it doesn't sound like "chorizo" refers here to sausage or beef, but rather to some defect in the bread itself.

Tampoco entiendo... ¿El artículo es de España? De serlo, "chorizo" significa ladrón, tramposo, aprovechado... podría encajar pues viven lujosamente y ahora se quejan. Suerte.

It is of some comfort that you also find this confusing.

Perhaps the reference is to a basket of choripanes that didn't have much meat. But if this is the case, wouldn't it have been more natural to express the idea by writing "panes con escasa carne" or similar?

Hi Robert! I do not think chorizo refers to the bread here, but obviouly the meaning is not clear. It could be there is only half a sausage (instead of a whole one) or that they get bread without even half a sausage. Unless you can get clarification I would say ¨bread rations without half a sausage¨which is equally ambiguous IMO.

I wouldn’t be too literal mentioning only “half” a chorizo, or whichever meat. I think what the writer is trying to say here is that someone was trying to save some money by cutting rations.
