Hi. How can this be translated please ? Thank you. enjambres . I 've never heard this term before. I'm not sure what it is.

@Helen Various meanings exist, as seen in el DREA and at es.freedictionary.com, a useful site from which I posted here in Discussion and which references several dictionaries. In this case, I'd say it's clear that "enjambres" isn't being used in a literal sense, i.e., in relation to bees, but rather in a figurative sense. At least that's my understanding of the source text, which mentions Puerto Rico, having spent some 5 years in the Hispanic Caribbean, incluidos dos en la Isla del Encanto. That said, I could be wrong but, in this context, this is how I'd interpret it.

@Marcelo I've just asked my husband, who knows 'all about' things like this. He's told me that an 'enjambre' is formed when a queen bee is expelled from a colony and she flies away with her 'court of bees'. When they get tired, the bees stop flying and form a nest wherever it suits them.

However, an 'enjambre' is also the name for manmade beehives.

@Helena According to common definitions of 'enjambre,' wouldn't it be more like the swarm in a frenzy, rather than the nest itself?

An 'enjambre' is a bees nest.

Nest is used to discuss colonies which house themselves in natural or artificial cavities or are hanging and exposed. Hive is used to describe an artificial/man-made structure to house a honey bee nest.

I think 'enjambres' is evocative of swarms of insects in a frenzy, hence my suggestion of 'hordes' in this context.

Thank you very much for helping me. Here I think emjambre means it's nothing. The earthquake that there was. Compared to the huge eartkquake that's coming very soon. Here it seems to have nothing to do with bees.
