This is a text about the exploitation of Indigenous peoples by the Spanish and then the independent nation in Argentina:
Usurpadas sus tierras, operó entonces un nuevo despojo: fueron sometidos a un nuevo orden ya no como indios, sino bajo otras categorías que expresaban la desigualdad. Quedaron cautivos dentro de las estancias, haciendas y fincas de sus anteriores encomenderos y vecinos estancieros, que acapararon sus tierras. : Yes, also tenant farmers, or sharecroppers, as Brent puts it. But probably your option tenant labourer is more appropriate as it is a bit more wider than just "farmer".
