onion Explanation: I've never seen any specific word or term for yellow onion (though undoubtly there exists a specific scientific designation). Lök covers a whole range of different onions that have different names in english. "lök" is collective for all types including (flower)bulbs, but also generally refers to ordinary (yellow) and (red) onion used in cooking. Then there's "vitlök" (white onion) which simply is garlic and "purjolök" that's leek. I think just "onion" will suffice as long as it is yellow onion, and you probably can distinguish with "red onion" when it says "rödlök" |
