smash him/her on (in) the face

"in the face" or "on the face", both are used. For examples, http://smash-him-in-the-face.blogspot.com/ and http://crueltysux.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html. There are many more if you search the idiom on google.

of course, "smash someone in (on) the face" is "ağzını burnunu kırmak". For "ağzını burnunu kırmamak", you will rephrase it as "not to smash ...." for your example, "Obviously, he was polite and did not smash him in the face - an educated person of course. He doesn't (do/seek) tit for tat."

BTW, smash "her" would probably not as much possible as it would be the case for "him" :)))
