503
00:42:17,560 --> 00:42:19,480
We are closed brother.
504
00:42:19,560 --> 00:42:22,280
What do you mean we are closed?
505
00:42:22,360 --> 00:42:26,360
We came all the way from Kayseri, then you say there is no business
506
00:42:26,440 --> 00:42:27,600
Of course there is no business.
507
00:42:27,680 --> 00:42:29,120
We sold all our products.
508
00:42:29,200 --> 00:42:32,720
You mean in the black market right?
509
00:42:33,360 --> 00:42:36,600

00:42:46,920 --> 00:42:48,320
Wow…
514
00:42:48,880 --> 00:42:52,840
You think you know
better then your master?
515
00:42:52,920 --> 00:42:54,920
Go away while you still can in one piece.
516
00:43:05,320 --> 00:43:09,040
Lets go they all became
gangsters here.
517
00:43:09,120 --> 00:43:10,680
Come on.
518
00:43:21,040 --> 00:43:23,160
What are we doing?
519
00:43:23,680 --> 00:43:25,480
Why did we talk,
why are we going back?
520
00:43:25,560 --> 00:43:30,920
Don't let it show, I checked
inside, they all are armed.
521
00:43:31,000 --> 00:43:33,600
I saw 5 people.
522
00:43:33,680 --> 00:43:37,240
Surely at least three of them must
have been eating an omelette in the back.
523
00:43:37,320 --> 00:43:38,800
What's the plan?
524
00:43:38,880 --> 00:43:41,240
What is the plan? Nice question.
525
00:43:41,320 --> 00:43:43,520
This is the plan.

4 a. Entry Category and No: SUSTAINABLE SUCCESS (30)
4 b. Classification: Check the valid boxes.
The Sustainable Success Award honours cases that have succeeded for five or more years. At a minimum, results must date back to February 2007 and must include the current competition year's results. Cases submitted must have a common objective in both strategy and creative executions; with a continuation of core executional elements that demonstrate effectiveness over time.
You have 9 pages (including this one) devoted for your case story. You are free to write as much as you like to answer each question, as long as your case story doesn’t exceed the 9 pages. Do not delete any instructions/explanations that come with the questions. These texts are meant both for the applicants and the jury members. Text answers must be in black 10-point font or higher. All data must be based on a specific, verifiable source. Any data without a verifiable source will not be considered. Do not include any agency names (ad, media, other) anywhere in your entry materials. Answer every question or indicate it as “not applicable.” Do not forget to define your target audience. A checklist about the creative presentation requirements and additional information about this award can be found at the end of this form.
Answer all questions for the initial year AND describe how/why change occurred over time.
5a. What was the strategic communications challenge?
What was the business problem the effort was meant to address? Provide information on the category, marketplace, company, competitive environment, the target audience and/or the product/service that created your communication challenge. Address the initial challenge and how/why it changed over time. Define the initial target audience you meant to reach and, if it changed over time, explain why. Which demeanour r, behaviour, demographics etc. does it contain? Define.
Turkeys’ laundry market is a quite a large automatic washing machine detergent market where competition is tough and intense. 96% of this 450 million euro market is composed of the following 4 big players; Unilever (UL), Procter & Gamble (P & G), Henkel and Hayat Kimya. As of the end of 2003, the market shares of the industry's two largest players were, respectively, OMO with 21.3 and ARIEL with 23.1. (Source: Nielsen)
İn the years following the 2001 economic crisis, that deeply affected markets all over the world, the biggest problem OMO was facing in Turkey was the commoditization of the laundry market by loosing value. This movement was led by the growth of cheap local brands putting downward pressure on prices for the category’s big players.
But the commoditization wasn’t limited to just price. Detergent communications had become commoditized. Every brand used the same vocabulary of whiteness and stain removal. They all used the same side-by-side demonstrations and the same scientists-in-white-coats testing the detergents in laboratories. It was like a childish game among brands: “my molecule’s bigger than yours‟.
Brands were resembling each other more and more thus loosing their distinctions in the eyes of consumers. As a result, big brands were having a tough time convincing consumers to spend more on their product.
Our target audience was the smart mums who knew their business well. They invested a lot of time and effort in their laundry and results really mattered to them. Having their families leave their homes looking their best is a source of pride and so smart mums were prepared to pay for quality, if it truly delivered. If we could convince them of our superiority then we could win back those who had been tempted by the lower priced brands and return OMO to growth.
Our biggest communications challenge, therefore, seemed dauntingly singular:
To breakthrough the wall of commoditized claims and demonstrations of laundry advertising in order to land a message about our cleaning superiority that really stood out.
5b. What were your objectives?
Your entry may have one or all of the following objectives: A. Measurable Business Objectives, B. Behavioural, C. Perceptual/Attitudinal. State specific objectives for all of these if apply to your case. Provide a % or # and time frame for all objectives. If you had no specific objectives (ex: no measurable objectives), state the reason on your entry form and explain the importance of your current objectives for your category and why they must be reached.
In this section, you need to state the business problem the effort was meant to address? What were your criteria? Define the tools you used to make the necessary measurements. Did your campaign have deficiencies in terms of objectives? If so, which objectives did you set, why are they meaningful? Avoid strengthening the objectives according to the obtained results – as briefly as possible, describe the the situation you faced when you first tackled the campaign. You must provide benchmarks and context for your objectives versus years prior and in context of competitive landscape and category, etc. What was the business, behavioral or perceptual/ attitudinal response you were looking for in the context of your audience, competition and category? Examples: to meet a concrete share or sales target; to obtain a specific behavioral response, to modify existing brand perceptions, to establish new product awareness. Explain your initial goals and how/why they changed as time passed.
The main objective of the “Dirt is Good” campaign was to gain market shares by differentiating our brand from the competitors on an emotional level, allowing us to become the category leader. However, while doing so, we had to make sure we not only protected but also strengthen the brands functional assets.
Work Objectives:
1.Close the market share gap with our biggest competitor and become the market leader by a substantial margin.
2.Increase our penetration and repurchase rates.
Sensorial Objectives:
1. Strengthen our performance-oriented brand image
2.Distinguish the brand on an emotional level
5c. Total Media Expenditures
Include value of donated media, out of pocket activation costs and non-traditional paid media.
Indicate the size of your media budget in the row below using the following ranges:
Under 500 thousand $/ 500-999thousand $/1-2 million $/2-5 million $/5-10 million $/10-20 million$/20-40 million $/ 40 million $ ad over.
You must provide the budget for the initial year your case started (ex: if it started 20 years ago then the initial year is 20 years prior), the budget for the 3 interim years, and the current year. Write down in the columns below the years and their corresponding media budgets.
6a. What was your “Big Idea”?
What was the global idea that drove your case? The idea should not be your execution or tagline. State in one sentence.
The big idea was the “Dirt is Good” campaign that explained to mums what an important role stains play in their children’s life and that getting dirty is an integral part of child’s development.
6b. How was the “Big Idea” born, how did you reach it?
Was your idea driven by a consumer insight or channel insight or marketplace / brand opportunity? Explain how it originated and how the big idea addressed the challenge. How did it evolve while maintaining continuity/integrity?
Describe any research done that resulted in the insight or awareness of the opportunity. Also describe any research that revised/validated the insight or opportunity after the fact. Did you adapt your strategy as a result of new things learned in the field?
The embryo of the idea had actually begun to take shape in North America in the late 1990s when the brand extolled families to “Go Ahead, Get Dirty!”. You could enjoy the fun of getting dirty, it argued, without worrying about how to get rid of the dirt afterwards because you had the cleaning power of the brand. The second step came from Brazil and Turkey in the early 2000s. With the slogan “There’s no Learning without Stains‟ OMO started to show how getting dirty was an integral part of children’s development. The positive feedback received from these campaigns encouraged us to take bigger and bolder steps for distinguishing the brand on an emotional level. Hence, in 2003, a global team composed of agency and brand team members gathered and came up with the “Dirt is Good” idea.
This was an idea that could solve our communications challenge of breaking through the wall of seemingly commoditized claims of detergent efficacy. In the brands everlasting tit for tat battle of “I’ll deliver the cleanest laundry‟, the assumption that dirt and stains are the enemy had become an unquestioned truth. Loving and embracing dirt, and not keeping it at arm's length, was radically different. On a market where every other brand demonized dirt, along came a detergent brand that said something completely the opposite. It immediately gave the brand distinction and differentiation in the marketplace.
7a. How did you bring the idea to life and how did you maintain it’s continuity all these years?
Describe and provide rationale for your communications strategy to bring the idea to life, as born from the insights and strategic challenge described above. How did your creative and media strategies work together to reach your specific audience? Your entry should detail the ways in which the local challenges impacted the way the idea was carried out within each country, and how it was made culturally relevant to each environment. Describe why certain strategies for different markets were chosen.
Describe the channels you selected/why selected, justify the work and demonstrate how your idea addresses your challenge. How did the channels work together? Explain how the creative executions submitted for consideration substantiate the rationale for continuation. Demonstrate how any new creative executions submitted (those that were not used in the initial years) met the challenge of communicating the idea / strategy to the audience in terms of the new communication imperative. All creative materials submitted should exemplify the rationale described in this section.
Creative Strategy:
As striking as the “Dirt is Good” idea might be, bringing it to life in Turkey was not that easy. Our target audience (housewives between the ages of 20 to 45 with children) was differing from the rest of the world’s detergent consumers on a significant matter. Turkish consumers had q pretty conservative approach towards getting dirty. According to global segmentation studies, Turkey was one of the two countries with the most consumers from the “refusing to get dirty” segment in the world. (Source: 2003 OMO Global Segmentation Research - Sundance)
Persuasive reasons were required to convince this audience that getting dirty is a good thing. Our research was not confined only with mothers. We also consulted teachers, opinion leaders in various fields, family elders, and even children.
The results from this research showed us that: If kids learn while getting dirty, if they are gaining important life values that aid their development then, and only then, Dirt is Good. At this stage all we needed to know was which values mothers wanted their kids to learn while growing up.
Turkey was suffering from being one of the relatively young countries. Because of the military coups, the on-going terrorism problem and the economic crises it had been through trying to line-up with the global economy; people had concerns when it came to predicting their futures. In such a situation, mothers were naturally worried about their children’s future. That’s why their biggest wish is for their kids to stand on their own two feet. They want them to become independent individuals that need help from no one. This was accomplishable only if children would internalize concepts such as courage, responsibility, commitment and determination.
Thus our communication strategy slowly began to take shape. Our priority was; first to persuade mothers about the predetermined values we had chosen through the image TVC we would shoot. This would be followed by a series of more functional TVC’s (that would still preserve the “Dirt is Good” philosophy) meant to explain the benefits of the various products we would introduce to the market over the years.
We launched with the “You can’t do it” campaign in 2004. This campaign’s main purpose was to create a manifesto depicting the “Dirt is Good” philosophy. Our message was clear and simple: you can’t learn without getting dirty. Our TVC composed of genuine and intimate moments of a child’s life was successful in demonstrating to mothers all the life related values their child would miss out on if they maintain from getting dirty.
By 2007, thanks to the image TVC’s we had shot during the 3 previous years our new positioning was now set. However much consumers might have liked the “Dirt is Good” idea, we couldn’t let them have any question marks regarding OMO’s performance when they went grocery shopping. So an indispensable objective of the campaign was to raise OMO’s performance value (washing, specifically white laundry which is considered as the “torture test” of the laundry market) in order to gain market share. In accordance with this aim, we positioned the concepts of whiteness and white laundry as the enemy of getting dirty, thus learning important life values. We conveyed the message with the phrase: "No white can stand in the way of freedom. The secret is to never give up.” Moreover, with this campaign, OMO became the first detergent brand to ever use outdoor advertising.
2008 was an important year for all the players of the category. The industry was switching to concentrated detergent. This meant a 33% decrease of detergent use for washing caused by the smaller package size. We had to explain this significant change to consumers. Leading this progression was a great opportunity to highlight OMO’s innovative structure. Our main objective was to convey 3 key messages: 1. Concentrated OMO is as strong as regular OMO (efficiency) 2. Concentrated OMO washes as many loads as regular OMO (worth-value) 3. Since concentrated OMO doesn’t require a pre-wash, it consumes less water so you won’t leave an arid world to your children (environmental sustainability). The campaign constructed on the “Small in size with Big results” idea was brought to life with the “Small kid versus Big kid” analogy in concordance with the “Dirt is Good” philosophy. The differentiating “Dirt is Good” philosophy played an important role in making OMO the leading brand during the concentrated detergent launch period of the industry.
2010 was another eventful year for the category: Liquid detergents came out on the market. However, consumers associated this new line with their delicate cleaning product they’d used on colourful or woollen clothing. So they approached the idea of using the new detergents for all their laundry with suspicion. Explaining the benefits of liquid detergent over powder was crucial.
That is why we decided to build the campaign in a manner it could roof multiple ideas. In the TVC where we said setting children’s imaginations free enables them to experience life for themselves, we positioned OMO Liquid as the versatile cleaning solution (leaves no residue, easily penetrates fabric, can be applied on stains directly etc.) that enables this experience. When we communicated our bran-new liquid detergent concept to our consumers, by enhancing the “versatility" quality with our “Dirt is Good” philosophy, we once again distinguished our brand from others.
2013 was a relaunch year for our main variants. With our new and improved formula we were more confident then ever in our product performance. We echoed this change with our communication vocabulary to bring a breath of fresh air to the brand. “The new OMO easily removes the toughest stains even in quick wash” campaign was constructed around more mundane realities. With it, we were able to create the “Children get dirty in the blink of an eye, but now thanks to the new OMO tough stains are quickly removed” idea.
Media Strategy:
FHK 20-44 ABC1C2 olan hedef kitlemizin izleme alışkanlıklarını göz önünde bulundurarak PT (prime time) dominasyonu ile ilerlediğimiz dönemde rakiplerimizden ayrışmak için PT’deki 1 dakikalık premium Unilever kuşaklarını kullandık. Daha sonra buna ek olarak OPT’de (off prime-time) gündüz kuşağında da 60 saniyelik canlı tanıtıcı reklamlarla mesajımızı kuşak spotundan daha geniş bir sürede duyurma fırsatı bulduk. 2010 yılında hedef kitlemizdeki izlenirliği en yüksek yarışma formatı olan Survivor’da 15 dakikalık bir alan sahiplenerek, 10 hafta boyunca ana programın önünde çocuklara “Kirlenmek Güzeldir” temasına uygun oyunlar oynatarak, oyun sırasında kirlenen t-shirtlerini Omo ile temizlediğimiz 60 saniyelik tanıtıcı reklamlar kullandık. Besides sponsoring this mini-show, we sought to keep the interest to it alive via digital platforms.
Through our campaigns, approximately 70% of our target audience viewed our spot at least 6 times. Our PT rate average was 45%. We used outdoor advertising to highlight our product’s excellent cleaning properties especially around launch times and during the liquid launch where we wanted to change consumer habits. As well as standard outdoor use we also had creative and attention grabbing wall and parapets applications that quickly and effectively conveyed our message. In addition to this, because it is one of the most influential mediums that affects’ the purchase decision, we also used the closest point of sale in-store advertisements. Our ads featured in the magazines our consumers read the most; additionally, we used newspaper ads to publicise particularly our short-term campaign and events. On the digital landscape, we kept women’s’ attention alive through a series of Facebook games and apps and rewarded them with product samples according to their scores. Furthermore, by linking our TV based projects to digital medias, we aimed to make more effective use of both medias.
7b. What channels did you use? (Communication Touchpoints)
Indicate below all communication touch points used in this case and the % of the total budget that was used for each communications touch point, which should equal 100% for each year. You must provide information for the initial year your case started (ex: if it started 20 years ago then the initial year is 20 years prior), 3 interim years, and the current year. You must provide detail in your written case and show in the creative work you submit, examples of each communication touch point you mark below which was integral to the effort’s success over time.
7c. Other marketing components used in this effort
Indicate the components that were active during the duration of the effort and the time period in which they were used. If none were used, indicate this below. Explain the effect of the selected components below.
No particular price change, couponing etc. was arranged for the “Dirt is Good” campaign. However, although not exclusive to this campaign, similar applications have been made in accordance with market dynamics.
8. How do you know it worked?
Detail why you consider your effort a success. Refer to your specific audience and to your objectives and measurement tools in 5b (results must relate directly to your objectives – restate them and provide results). Demonstrate how you met or exceeded the objectives using quantitative and behavioral metrics or other measurement tools you described.
Explain, with context, why your results are significant. Identify shifts in brand perception, consumer research, and tracking results and how they contributed to evidence of results over time and to the continuation of the case. Did your effort drive business? Did it drive awareness and consumer/business behavior? Use charts and data whenever possible. Explain what x% means in your category and for your audience. Explain why the results you have are significant in the context of your marketplace, category, competition and product/service. Numerical results lacking context regarding why they are significant will be disregarded.
Make sure you address every objective whether fully achieved or not. Make sure your results and objectives are framed in the context of your audience.
Do not assume judges know what equals success in your category/competitive context or where your product/service and budget was before and after the effort – explain.

Work Objectives:
1.Close the market share gap with our biggest competitor and become the market leader by a substantial margin.
As of 2013, OMO not only closed the 1.8 point gap between him and its nearest competitor but also surpassed him with 8.5 points and became the market leader with a share of 25.9. (Source: Nielsen / 2013 Average Market Share)
2.Increase our penetration and repurchase rates.

Sensorial Objectives:
1.Strengthen our performance-oriented brand image
Our scores in the “most important criterion in the choice of detergent that consumers oversee” have increased dramatically. Our performance-oriented brand image value has evolved in the following way:
Our “Brand that removes stains the first time around” score increased from 45 in 2004 to 60 in 2013. Just as our “brand that removes though stains” score went from 45 in 2004 to 61 in 2013.
2.Distinguish the brand on an emotional level
With the “Dirt is Good” platform, OMO distinguished itself significantly from its closest competitor.
“The brand that believes children develop the best when they are left free to get dirty” increased its image value to 31 points ahead of its closest competitor. (2013 – OMO: 66 /Closest Competitor: 35)
Whereas the image value as “the brand that knows getting dirty is one of the positive aspects of life” got embraced with 24 points above its closest competitor. (2013 - OMO: 63/Closest Competitor: 39) (Source: MWB / Brand Health Check 2013)

Medya Stratejisi :
