Source text - English Around 1980, consumer video was in its infancy and 16mm film was the more practical option for small independent filmmakers. Shooting film was exciting, but the cost of film stock—running through the camera at 400 feet in 11 minutes—made random shooting almost financially impossible. A high-quality 16mm movie camera with good lenses was barely affordable. Now I can't help but smile every time I slip four hours of Mini-DV tape into my jacket pocket and hang a lightweight High-Definition digital video camcorder from my shoulder. Times do change!
Digital video has helped to open the door to an age of self-expression, a practice that doesn't still require a second mortgage on your home to pay for it. The evolution of today's consumer digital video offers some of the most sophisticated video cameras ever, and there's no indication this innovation is slowing. With Apple Computer's new Intel dual-core computers and Windows-based personal computers outfitted with video media elements, you have the ability to create high-quality, award-winning videos at your fingertips.
Digital video has been available to the consumer for about 10 years. What makes a video camera digital? Simply put, digital video (DV) is an imaging process that starts when light passes through the camera's lens and is focused onto a sensor in the form of a chip now located where the film use to sit. This chip, with millions of light-detecting elements, or pixels, receives the focused image on its surface and converts the light and color values into digital data, which it then transfers every 1/60 second (a variable that depends on the camera) to the video camera's internal processor. The video camera compresses this huge data stream to a manageable size that can be transferred to storage, such as a Mini-DV tape or DVD, or flash memory, or a small hard drive inside the camera. It's hard to believe that engineers have miniaturized these functions into something you can hold in the palm of your hand. Even more amazing is the ability now to transfer this high-quality video and stereo-sound recording directly to your computer for editing and archiving.

Natáčet na něj bylo vzrušující, ale cena filmové suroviny, která se kamerou řítila rychlostí 120 metrů za 11 minut, znemožňovala při natáčení jakoukoli větší improvizaci. Kvalitní kameru „šestnáctku“ a sadu dobrých objektivů si mohl dovolit málokdo. Dodnes se neubráním úsměvu, kdykoli zastrčím do kapsy u kabátu čtyři hodinové kazety Mini-DV a přes rameno si pověsím lehoučkou digitální videokameru s vysokým rozlišením. Ano, časy se mění!

Na spotřebitelském trhu je digitální video dostupné asi deset let. Co to vůbec znamená, když řekneme o videokameře, že je digitální? Jednoduše řečeno, digitální video (DV) je proces zpracování obrazu, který začíná tím, že světlo projde objektivem kamery a dopadne na obrazový snímač neboli čip umístěný tam, kde kdysi býval film. Tento čip, pokrytý miliony světlocitlivých bodů, nazývaných také pixely, snímá zaostřený obraz dopadající na jeho povrch a převádí hodnoty osvětlení a barevných odstínů na číselné údaje, které 50x za sekundu (nebo jinou rychlostí v závislosti na typu kamery) přenáší do vnitřního procesoru videokamery. Videokamera tento datový veletok stlačuje – komprimuje – do rozumnějšího objemu, který se dá uložit na paměťové médium, například na kazetu Mini-DV, na disk DVD, na paměťovou kartu nebo na malý pevný disk umístěný v kameře. Ani se nechce uvěřit, že konstruktéři dokážou všechna ta složitá zařízení vměstnat do něčeho, co se vám vejde do dlaně. A ještě úžasnější je, že dnes můžete výsledný vysoce kvalitní videozáznam se stereofonním zvukem přenést přímo do počítače a tam jej sestříhat a archivovat.

Source text - English So let's start by exploring the manual use of the camera's aperture. The aperture is an interior part of the lens, usually circular, that adjusts or limits the quantity of light that passes through the lens to the camera's imaging chip, or sensor (either the CCD or CMOS variety).
Automatic aperture control is often satisfactory for average settings where lighting conditions are fairly constant. But what if someone with a white shirt walks into the frame, for example, or daylight from a window is creeping into the shot? These changes will affect the quality of your picture. A camera set on automatic will adjust to this lighting situation and possibly affect the video's exposure by underexposing or overexposing the shot.
Other situations in which you might need to control the camera's exposure are night scenes or scenes with artificial lighting. Let's say you've turned down the lights for your daughter's birthday cake presentation. What you want here is a video that captures the mood of the birthday party in the dark room full of giggling kids lit by the candles on the cake. Now you're looking for the glow on her face as she blows out the candles. With the video camera on “auto,” it comprehends, “This scene is too dark, give it more light.” Most likely the camera set on automatic will open the iris to the maximum and then add gain to the image, creating an unnatural, noisy image. Manually controlling the aperture allows you to adjust the exposure so you can maintain that exposure on the candles and faces and not let the camera expose for the whole room, making a more washed-out image.
One simple technique for determining the best exposure in situations like the birthday candle scene is first to frame the scene with the camera on “auto” to see how it looks on the camera's display. Then switch to manual and close the aperture down until you get nice detail on the candlelit faces.
Translation - Czech Začněme tedy výkladem ručního ovládání kamerové clony. Clona je prvek zabudovaný dovnitř do objektivu, obyčejně kruhový, snižující o nastavenou hodnotu množství světla, které prochází objektivem na obrazový čip neboli snímač kamery (typu CCD nebo CMOS).
V běžných situacích s víceméně konstantními světelnými podmínkami obvykle plně vyhovuje automatické řízení clony. Co se ale stane, když do záběru vejde někdo v bílé košili, nebo když za oknem náhle vykoukne slunce z mraků? Takové změny mají vliv na kvalitu obrazu. Kamera běžící v automatickém režimu může na novou světelnou situaci zareagovat tím, že záběr podexponuje nebo přeexponuje.
Další případ, kdy se vám může hodit možnost ovlivňovat expozici, jsou noční scény a scény s umělým osvětlením. Řekněme, že vaše dcera má narozeniny, právě jste zhasli světla a nese se dort. Půjde vám teď o to, abyste zachytili atmosféru narozeninové oslavy v tmavém pokoji plném chichotajících se dětí, osvětleném jen svíčkami na dortu. Dcera nabírá dech a svíčky, které se chystá sfouknout, jí měkce ozařují tvář. Poté přepněte na ruční ovládání a zavírejte clonu, dokud nebudou tváře ve světle svíček pěkně prokreslené.

Source text - English First off, shooting a video is different from pointing a still camera and taking a picture. To use a simple analogy, shooting video is like building a house—you do it one piece at a time. Initially, the piles of lumber, plywood, and siding have no relationship or structure. In the builder's mind, however, there exists a plan. The construction process is complex, and often frustrating, but gradually the house takes shape, and the builder's vision is realized. The same pertains to making a video. The mechanical process of shooting and editing can be complicated and tedious, threatening to sap your creative energy. “I only want to take pictures, I don't want to be a computer geek,” you say.
I understand. At first, it's a rough ride. Thinking about how and what you want to shoot—which means paying close attention to framing, sound, action, and lighting while also keeping careful watch on battery levels, filters, tripods, microphones, and all the other bells and whistles on the camera—can be confusing. This is especially true if you pick up your camera just occasionally. The challenge in shooting video, as in all photography, is dealing with the technical elements while staying focused on the “creative” big picture. The simple truth is “practise makes perfect” and shooting good video to tell cohesive stories is no different.
Since computers with creative editing tools have entered the scene, there's the temptation to think, “I'll correct the problems later when I edit the video.” The fact is, “garbage in, garbage out” holds as true today as it did when computer programmers first stressed that a computer's output is only as good as the original input. It's true, you can correct some problems with sound-, contrast-, and color-balancing tools, but the goal in this chapter is to show you how to prepare for and guard against these problems at the source, so that later you can concentrate on editing a technically strong video. The aim is for your video to grab everyone's attention as they gather around the new family flat-panel TV or assemble to watch the company's “eye-opener” at a conference.
Translation - Czech Hned na začátku si řekněme, že natočit video je něco úplně jiného než namířit fotoaparát a pořídit snímek. Můžeme si pomoci přirovnáním: film či video se staví jako dům, z mnoha malých částí. Hromady trámů, cihel a pytlů s cementem nemají nejprve žádný vzájemný vztah ani strukturu, ale stavitel už v hlavě nosí plán, představu budoucího domu. Samotná stavba je komplikovaný a mnohdy vyčerpávající proces, stavitelova vize se ale postupně uskutečňuje a dům dostává tvar. Totéž platí i pro natáčení videa. Mechanismy natáčení a střihu mohou být složité a pracné, mohou vám zdánlivě ubírat tvůrčí energii. Budete si říkat: „Chci jenom natáčet obrázky, nechci se zahrabat u počítače.“
Chápu vás. Ze začátku je to jako krotit divokého koně. Myslet na to, co chci natočit a jak – dávat dobrý pozor na kompozici záběru, zvuk, pohyb a osvětlení a současně bedlivě sledovat stav baterií, filtry, stativy, mikrofony a ostatní hejblátka a blikátka –, z toho se člověku může zatočit hlava. Což platí dvojnásob, berete-li kameru do ruky jen příležitostně. Nejtěžší na natáčení videa, stejně jako na fotografování nebo klasickém filmování, je zvládat vše po technické stránce a současně neztrácet ze zřetele celkový tvůrčí záměr. Staré rčení „cvičení dělá mistra“ neplatí o nic méně, když chcete natočit dobré záběry a složit z nich příběh, který bude držet pohromadě.
Od té doby, co se na scéně objevil software pro střih a úpravu videa, je člověk při natáčení v neustálém pokušení říkat si: „To se spraví v počítači.“ Jak ovšem upozorňovali už první programátorští průkopníci, „smetí dovnitř – smetí ven“, jinými slovy výstup z počítače nemůže být řádově lepší než to, co jsme dodali na vstupu. Ano, nástroje pro dolaďování zvuku, kontrastu či barev nám pomohou vyřešit některé problémy, tato kapitola si ale klade za cíl ukázat vám, jak tyto problémy předvídat a jak zabránit tomu, aby vůbec vznikly, takže se později budete moci soustředit na tvůrčí střih technicky dobře připraveného videa. Cílem je, aby výsledek vaší práce ihned zaujal všechny, kdo se sejdou doma před novou televizí s plochou obrazovkou, nebo návštěvníky veletrhu sledující upoutávku vaší firmy.
English to Czech: Tone Production: Clarinet – Tvorba tónu: klarinet General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Music
Source text - English Do you have a young clarinetist who has trouble playing above high C? Have him play the concert B (his altissimo C#) on the mouthpiece only. You have just proven to him that the reed will vibrate fast enough. Now, using the exact same embouchure, he can play the high C# on his clarinet. Hint: Do NOT lift the first finger, left hand, all the way off the tone hole in the altissimo (or third) register of the clarinet. What you are doing with the first finger is forming a second register vent. While playing fourth space E, roll the first finger down to just slightly crack a vent ("half-hole"). If the embouchure is correct, the high C# will pop right out. Now play top line F, roll the finger down, and high D pops out. Play F#, roll the finger down, out pops high Eb, etc. You may demonstrate this by turning the mouthpiece around and letting the student blow while you finger the notes. There is no change in embouchure tension from register to register. Biting to squeeze out the high notes is detrimental to clarinet (and sax). With this demonstration it can be seen by all that the embouchure is the same for the entire range of the clarinet. (Exception: For the upper register of the bass clarinet, it is helpful to drop the jaw slightly.)
As aside: Many youngsters blame the reed or embouchure for squeaks, when in reality it is usually poor hand and finger position. A tone hole may be slightly cracked, forming an unneeded register vent, or the hand may be slightly opening a side key. There may be a leaky pad. The young player squeaks, and then starts doing weird things with his embouchure trying to stop the squeaks. When the student squeaks, he should first check his hand position.
Translation - Czech Učíte mladého klarinetistu, který má problémy s tóny nad c3? Nechte jej na samotnou hubičku zahrát znějící H (jeho C# ve vysokém rejstříku). Právě jste mu předvedli, že dokáže rozkmitat plátek dostatečně rychle. Zachová-li přesně stejný nátisk, může nyní zahrát vysoké C# na celý klarinet. Tip: ve vysokém (třetím) rejstříku klarinetu NEZVEDÁME první prst levé ruky úplně z tónového otvoru. První prst tady vlastně vytváří druhou přefukovací klapku. Zahrajeme tón E ve čtvrté mezeře notové osnovy a pootočíme první prst malinko dolů, jen natolik, aby se pod ním otevřela úzká štěrbina („poloviční otvor“). Při správném nátisku se okamžitě ozve vysoké C#. Teď zahrajeme F na horní lince, pootočíme prst a zazní vysoké D. Zahrajeme F#, pootočíme prst a zazní vysoké Eb atd. Na ukázku můžete hubičku otočit a nechat žáka foukat, zatímco vy budete hmatat jednotlivé tóny. Napětí v nátisku se při přechodu z rejstříku do rejstříku nemění. Kousání ve snaze vymáčknout z klarinetu (nebo saxofonu) vysoké tóny je jen na škodu věci. Tato ukázka by měla každému ozřejmit, že nátisk je v celém rozsahu klarinetu stejný. (Výjimka: V horním rejstříku u basklarinetu pomáhá, pootevřeme-li trochu čelist.)
Na okraj: Mnoho začátečníků si myslí, že za upískávání může plátek nebo nátisk, ačkoli ve skutečnosti je obvykle na vině špatná poloha rukou a prstů. Prst nechává na okraji tónového otvoru škvírku a vytváří tak vlastně nežádoucí přefukovací klapku. Ruka se může dotýkat postranní klapky a pootevírat ji. Netěsní některá podlepka. Mladému hráči klarinet píská a on, aby se pískání zbavil, začne dělat různé výstřednosti s nátiskem. Pokud má žák problémy s „kanáry“, měl by se ze všeho nejdřív zaměřit na polohu rukou.
