English to Spanish: Waves of Change/Ondas de cambio General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Journalism
Source text - English The hospital offers music therapy, among other programs, which we as a group witness as two patients perform for us. The second performer, a shorter man in his late thirties named Antonio, perseveres through a long love ballad despite losing his place halfway through. Paco Herrera, the staff member leading the workshop, moves closer to Antonio and gestures with his hand like a metronome to get him back on track. As Antonio stares at a screen displaying lyrics and sings out his mournful song, Paco whispers to us, “borderline,” indicating the patient’s particular brand of personality disorder.

Source text - English Behind the burgundy curtains of the Gilena House of Culture auditorium stage, Julián Vicente stands, script in hand, feeding forgotten lines to his six onstage actors in their rendition of Don Quixote. They arrived earlier in the day from the Psychiatric Hospital located in the Sevilla-1 prison. Julián, who is not only the director but also the writer of this adaptation of Cervantes’ universal novel, drove the group in a mini-bus to deliver their performance to a group of middle school students in Gilena, in the Spanish province of Seville. As they walk off the mini-bus with their heads held high and cigarettes in hand waiting to be smoked, they look more like rock stars coming off their private jet than psychiatric patients arriving to perform a play.
English to Spanish: A Passion for Dance that Moves Problems Away/Una pasión por el baile que aleja los problemas General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Journalism
Source text - English It’s a Saturday afternoon at Sevilla Dance Center and Belén Espinosa Ledo is listening to her instructor count off the rhythm to the electrifying beat that’s booming out of the stereo. As she begins to dance with her classmates, the dimly lit studio is suddenly filled with a contagious energy as the dancers move their bodies with ease to the punchy rhythm of the hip-hop music. Their bodies jerk and pop quickly yet fluidly to form this unique style of dance known as popping.

Hello! I am a Spanish-English translator specialized in subtitling. I studied English Lenguage and Literature in the University of Seville and my interest for translating awakened when subtitling series in a fansub. Since then I have been subtitling and translating because I love it.
