English to Arabic: The Millennium Development Goals
Source text - English The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) reflect the aspirations of peoples in a better life through the selection of certain objectives. The progress of these objectives is pursued through a series of indicators which measure the achievement of those specified objectives within the period 1990-2015. The general objectives that the world leaders agreed on are: to halve extreme poverty, enforce universal primary education, promote gender equality, reduce the mortality rate among children under five by two-thirds, reduce maternal mortality rate by three quarters, combat AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis, ensure environmental sustainability, and develop a global partnership for development.
The development outlook in the last two decades indicates that the government has managed to achieve most of the MDGs. The State had reached its goals in achieving better standards of prosperity for its citizens. This can be seen in the fields of health, education, environmental sustainability, global partnership for development, promoting gender equity, and women empowerment.
Translation - Arabic تعكس الأهداف الإنمائية للألفية تطلعات الناس لحياة أفضل من خلال مجموعة أهداف محددة. ويتم متابعة ما تحرزة الدول من تقدم في تحقيق هذه الأهداف من خلال مجموعة من المؤشرات التي تقيس مدى تحققها خلال الفترة ما بين 1990 و2015. وتتمثل الأهداف العامة التي وافق عليها زعماء العالم في: القضاء على الفقر المدقع، وتحقيق تعميم التعليم الابتدائي، وتعزيز المساواة بين الجنسين، وتخفيض معدل وفيات الأطفال تحت سن الخامسة بنسبة الثلثين، وتخفيض معدل الوفيات بسبب النفاس بنسبة ثلاثة أرباع، ومكافحة أمراض الإيدز والملاريا والسل، وكفالة الاستدامة البيئية، وإقامة شراكة عالمية من أجل التنمية.

I’ve been wanting to write a book on the idea of leadershifts for a long time because a lot has changed in the decades I’ve been studying and practicing leadership. In the 1970s when I was new to my career, I could find very few books on leadership. Back then, management ruled the business world and Peter Drucker was the king. That started to change toward the end of the 1980s, as a few authors were starting to write leadership
books. People eagerly bought and read them. Why? Because
they could feel that life was moving faster, change was becoming normal, and they needed a way to navigate the world’s complexities, which were becoming more challenging.

Source text - English In the late summer of that year we lived in a house in a village that looked across the river and the plain to the mountains. In the bed of the river there were pebbles and boulders, dry and white in the sun, and the water was clear and swiftly moving and blue in the channels. Troops went by the house and down the road and the dust they raised powdered the leaves of the trees. The trunks of the trees too were dusty and the leaves fell early that year and we saw the troops marching along the road and the dust rising and leaves, stirred by the breeze, falling and the soldiers marching and afterward the road bare and white except for the leaves. The plain was rich with crops; there were many orchards of fruit trees and beyond the plain the mountains were brown and bare. There was fighting in the mountains and at night we could see the flashes from the artillery. In the dark it was like summer lightning, but the nights were cool and there was not the feeling of a storm coming. Sometimes in the dark we heard the troops marching under the window and guns going past pulled by motor-tractors. There was much traffic at night and many mules on the roads with boxes of ammunition on each side of their pack-saddles and gray motor trucks that carried men, and other trucks with loads covered with canvas that moved slower in the traffic. There were big guns too that passed in the day drawn by tractors, the long barrels of the guns covered with green branches and green leafy branches and vines laid over the tractors. To the north we could look across a valley and see a forest of chestnut trees and behind it another mountain on this side of the river. There was fighting for that mountain too, but it was not successful, and in the fall when the rains came the leaves all fell from the chestnut trees and the branches were bare and the trunks black with rain.
Translation - Arabic عندما كان الصيف يلملم أيامه راحلًا عن ذلك العام، قطنا منزلًا في قرية إذا أشرف المرء منها يلتقي بصره أولًا بالنهر والسهل ثم يتسنم الجبال. كان قاع النهر فراشًا للصخور؛ حصاها وجلاميدها، وعندما تغمرها الشمس بأشعتها الذهبية تصير كالفضة جفافًا وابيضاضًا، أما المياه فرائقةٌ صافيةٌ منسابةٌ كأنها زرقة السماء في القنوات. النقع الذي أثارته القوات المارة بالمنزل منحدرةً مع الطريق كسا أوراق الأشجار بذراتٍ من الغبار، ولم تسلم منه كذلك الجذوع، تساقطت الأوراق ذلك العام قبل الأوان، رأينا القوات تدلف على امتداد الطريق فيتطاير العَجَاج وتتململ الأوراق التي هزها النسيم وترتمي في أحضان الأرض، يزحف الجنود ثم ينفضُّ كل شيء ويترك الطريق بيضاء جرداء إلا من ورقات. كان السهل ممرعًا معشبًا خصيبًا؛ تزينه عدة بساتين تكتنف أشجار الفاكهة، وخلف السهل تنتصب الأطواد بُنِّية جرداء. في أكناف الجبال كانت نار الحرب مستعرة، بريق المدافع يبهر في الليل أبصارنا، كأنه في فحمة الليل برق لمع في سماء الصيف، لكن كانت الليالي طلقة، ولم يكن هناك ما يُشعِر بأن العاصفة وشيكة. من حين إلى حين كنا نسمع في هدأة الدجى رجرجة القوات التي تزحف تحت النافذة والمدافع التي تسحبها الجرارات المارة بها. في حنادس الليل يعج المكان بالحركة وتزدحم الطرقات ببغال غفيرة مثقلة بصناديق الذخيرة المحمولة على جنبي سروجها، وشاحنات رمادية تُقل رجالًا وشاحنات غيرها محملة بأحمال يواريها القماش تمشي رويدًا رويدًا في خضم السائرين. وفي نور النهار، تمر كذلك مدافع كبيرة تسحبها الجرارات، وعلى الجرارات بُسطت براميل بارود طويلة تواريها أغصان خضراء وأغصان مورقة مخضرة وكروم. وإذا ما التفتنا إلى الشمال، تقطع أبصارنا وادٍ ثم تقع على غابة بها أشجار الكستناء باسقات، وخلفها ينتصب طود آخر على هذا الجانب من النهر. استعر قتال في سبيل بسط النفوذ على هذا الجبل كذلك، لكنه لم يُكلل بالنجاح. وعندما تهطل الأمطار في الخريف تتهاوى الأوراق كلها من أشجار الكستناء فتترك الأغصان جرداء والجذوع مسودة من الأمطار.

Source text - English One evening deep into winter I had a car brimming with swim team
kids; it was my turn to drive everyone home. The afternoon was a
whirlwind, and nothing had gone as planned. I apologized to the wet
swimmers reeking of chlorine and explained that I needed to stop
quickly and pick up takeout food. I ran from my car into the restaurant
and stopped abruptly at the hostess station. The young woman looked
up and asked if she could help me. I told her I had an order that I was
very late picking up. She said, “Great, what’s your name?” I stood there.
She looked at me. I stood there some more. She looked at me. I finally
said, “That’s a great question.” I could not remember my name. As
those words left my mouth, one of the women seated at the bar to my
right spit out her drink, laughing. My name came back to me, I got my
food and turned to leave, feeling very unnerved. The hostess called after
me, “Good luck . . . you know . . . with your name and everything!”
We can become so saturated by all that we encounter that we
become completely distracted from the very fundamentals. Like, you
know, remembering our name.
Translation - Arabic في مساء ما في منتصف الشتاء كنت في سيارة ممتلئة بأطفال فريق السباحة؛ كان دوري في توصيل كل طفل إلى منزله. كانت فترة بعد الظهيرة دوامة، ولم يسر شيء كما خُطط له. اعتذرت للسباحين المبللين الذين تفوح منهم رائحة الكلور وأوضحت أنني أحتاج إلى التوقف بسرعة وإحضار طعام جاهز. ركضت من سيارتي إلى المطعم وتوقفت فجأة عند مكان المضيفة. رفعت الشابة بصرها وسألت عما إذا كان بإمكانها مساعدتي. أخبرتها أن لدي طلب تأخرت كثيرًا في أخذه. فقالت: "عظيم، ما اسمك؟" تسمرتُ هناك. نظرت إليَ. تسمرتُ هناك لفترة أطول. قلت أخيرًا: "هذا سؤال رائع." لم أتمكن من تذكر اسمي. وهذه الكلمات تخرج من فمي، بصقت واحدة من النساء في المطعم كانت تجلس عن يميني شرابها، وهي تضحك. عاد إليَ اسمي، أخذت طعامي والتففت لأغادر، وأنا أشعر بشدة أنني فقدت ثقتي بنفسي. نادت عليَ المضيفة: "حظ موفق… تعلمين… مع اسمك وكل شيء!"
